Rule #1: Make everyone else look good.

Reliable, dependable, predictable.
That's why 1st is so important. No matter how hard Third must charge, or how far Short must range, or how high Second must leap, First must be there to make the heroics worthwhile. The best at the position make it seem effortless.

It's anything but...

Essential Skills
The skill set for First requires unflinching eyes, a willingness to track the ball into the glove, an instinct to know when to stretch and when to take it on the hop, and the quick reflexes to sell those bang-bang plays to the umpire. And there's more to the position than that!

Group Drills
All drills help, and under 'Your Role' above we list several with special rssponsibilities for 1st. Put extra effort into those when the coach runs them during practice, but here is a quick list of all the team drills because you may be called on at any time to fill another position.
