Functional Core Training for Baseball: Developing Rotational Power and Balance.
Jim Murphy provides a comprehensive package of exercises to mimic the explosive, rotational movements involved in baseball. Covers exercises for developing a total athlete on the baseball diamond. Uses medicine balls, wobble boards, stability balls, and free weights to explain and illustrate an extensive array of exercises designed to improve balance, agility and power in baseball-related movements. Ideal for developing agile baserunners, explosive hitters, and powerful pitchers. Running time: 100 minutes.
Functional Shoulder Training for Athletes
Jim Murphy presents a detailed package of exercises designed to integrate the shoulder into the rest of the body’s kinetic chain. A must for any throwing athlete, the DVD covers exercises that are much more specific to the demands placed on the shoulder than ever before. Because throwing, swinging, and spiking are explosive, rotational movements involving the entire kinetic chain, training should be specific to those movements. Using medicine balls, wobble boards, stability balls, and free weights, the DVD shows the viewer how to build a kinetic chain with no weak links.
- Scapular stabilization exercises
- Training the decelerators (where most injuries occur)
- Integrating the rotator cuff into the rest of the body
- Integrating explosive rotation of the upper body and shoulder in multiple directions and planes
- Utilizing the body’s natural movement and patterns (such as the latissimus dorsi working with the contra-lateral glutes).
Medicine Ball and Stability Ball Training
Jim Murphy shows how to develop balance, agility and power using medicine balls and stability balls. Includes exercises using stability balls and medicine balls to increase power and balance, integrating explosive rotation of the total body in multiple directions and planes, single-leg exercises for balance and agility, wobble board exercises with medicine balls, cables, and free weights, and more. Produced in cooperation with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Running time: 90 minutes.
