Build your own: Choose your shape and cage sizes

If you have sufficient good quality netting, and a good source of inexpensive poles, then all you need to build your own backyard batting cage is some frame hardware or a connector kit.

Choose from two designs from two suppliers, in different lengths.

Kits for the ATEC-style cage shown above (components shown left) are available to build 2 lengths. With this style, the netting is suspended within the frame sections. All unions and corners are 1 1/2" welded steel tubing with a powder coated finish. The netting is #21 weather treated, black polyester.


Required to finish the project are 10-foot lengths of 1-3/8" fence top rail tubing (minimum 18 gauge), available at home improvement centers.





Cages Plus batting cages are designed to have the netting drape over top of the trapezoidal frame assembly. The connectors (shown here) are shaped so that the tubing flares out at the base. Made of steel, the angled joints are welded. Another point of difference, instead of thumb screws which can break off when hit by a baseball, the Cages Plus connectors use 1/2" bolts for secure tightening.

To complete your Cages Plus style cage, you'll need 10-foot lengths of inexpensive 3/4" EMT (electrical mechanical tubing) - the thin walled not rigid kind.
