In 1999, Jamey Shouppe, Florida State University Pitching Coach, created what remains quite simply the best curveball video ever produced. FSU's program has been consistently among the top programs in collegiate baseball. One of the weapons that FSU has mastered is the power curve ball.
Unlike your typical lazy overhand curve ball, the power curve looks like a fastball until the last possible moment before release, It begins in the strike zone and tails down and away. Under Shouppe's tutelage, the Florida State pitching staff has been among the nation's best. FSU's ERA has been ranked among the top four in the country in three of the last nine years in the final NCAA statistics. The Seminoles have also won the ACC's team ERA title 10 times in the last 17 seasons. Florida State finished the 2008 with a pair of pitchers who tallied double-digit victories in Matt Fairel (12-2) and Ryan Strauss (10-1). It marked the second consecutive season that at least two Seminole pitchers won at least 10 games in a season and the 10th time since 1993, all under the tutelage of Shouppe, that at least two Seminole pitchers have reached the 10-win plateau.
