One of WebBall's favorite coaches introduced us to a phrase a few years back that continues to make a lot of sense to us...
"The throwing side belongs to the pitcher;
the glove side belongs to the coach."
Now we admit there's a problem with a statement like that - it seems absolute. Does it mean the coach should never comment on or adjust the throwing side? Does it mean the coach can never let the glove side alone and must always tinker with it? No and no - at least not how we interpret it. But what it means most to us is that what happens on the glove side can affect the throwing side. Call it equal and opposite; call it postural stability; call it whatever you like. Bottom line: how the glove side works does matter - pay attention to it.
