Infield Drill

This drill improves players skills at advancing from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to home in game situations. The idea is to help players get around the bases by reacting to hits and fielders' throws.

RED lines are direction of ball throws or simulated hits.

BLUE and BLACK lines are direction of player movement.

Set-Up

The drill needs two fielders (SS and 3rd) - with optional fielder at 2B and either a player of coach at 1B.

The rest of players line up to take turns as baserunners from second base.

When the ball is hit to short, the runner starts off, holds until the fielder throws to first then goes to third. He stays at third to work on the lead off and run home, while the next player moves in at second to repeat the play.
